Winner of three Tony Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards and two Obie Awards, Urinetown is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, environmental collapse, privatization of natural resources, bureaucracy, municipal politics, and musical theatre itself! Hilariously funny and touchingly honest, Urinetown provides a fresh perspective on one of America's greatest art forms.

In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he's had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!

Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, Urinetown is an irreverently humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny. Praised for reinvigorating the very notion of what a musical could be, Urinetown catapults the "comedic romp" into the new millennium with its outrageous perspective, wickedly modern wit and sustained ability to produce gales of unbridled laughter.

Students should prepare a 1 minute cut of a musical theatre song. We prefer if you can submit a YouTube link to us with the instrumental version of your song that you will sing to. Sudents will sing in either the 10-11 or 12-1 time slots. ALL auditioners need to be present for the dacne call from 11-12. Please bring jazz dance shoes if you have them (tennis shoes if not, but no barefoot/sock dancing or dancing in open toed shoes allowed.)

This is a production-based class. All students who register for Urinetown must be enrolled in at least one Firefly Theatrical class for the Fall 2025 semester (acting, improv, singing, or dance).

Rehearsals: Aug 21, 2025 - Oct 18, 2025 - Saturdays 10:00 am - 1:00 pm, Thursdays 6-9 pm (no rehearsals Sept 20, 25, Oct 22, 25, 31)
Tech Week: Sunday Oct 26-Wed Oct 29 - 6-10 pm
Performances: Thursday Oct 30 (7 pm), (NO SHOW ON HALLOWEEN), Nov 1 (2 pm and 7 pm), Nov 2 (2 pm)
Cost: $550 (or three $184 payments)

Technical Track: Technical track students meet at the same time as the performers but work on set construction, painting, costumes, and props. Tech students are the crew for the performance days running spotlight, helping backstage, and other responsibilities. Tech students skip audition portion below and go to parent portal to register for Urinetown (Tech Track).
